All teachers in the service of the Academy shall thoroughly familiarize themselves with these rules and regulations and observe them strictly and faithfully in every respect.
Teachers shall not merely perform their duties in promoting the educational welfare of their pupils as required by these rules; they shall know their subjects of instruction thoroughly, study and adopt the host methods of presenting them and acquire a broad general knowledge.
Teachers must reach the Academy by 0930 hrs for the assembly period and then shall be in their respective rooms. They shall carefully supervise the pupils in the yards, basements, halls, corridors, academic rooms and, as far as possible, on the way to and from the Academy.
Teachers shall teach students about the need for cleaning desks, rooms, buildings, grounds, etc. and for cultivating good personal habits and thrift.
Teachers shall teach their pupils methods of study and treat the children with patience and kindness, giving special attention to the dull and unfortunate students. They shall speak to their pupils in the English language and shall cultivate purity of speech in their pupils.
Teachers shall keep posted in or near their academic rooms a program of the daily order of exercises approved by the principal.
Teachers shall attend all the meetings convened by the principal.
Teachers shall not be absent from the Academy except in case of personal illness or death in the immediate family without permission from the principal or, in her absence, from the vice principal. In all cases of absence, the teachers shall first notify the principal at least one hour before the start of the session so that a substitute may be provided.
Teachers who are absent shall notify the substitutes of the time of their return. Failure to do so shall entitle the substitute who reported unnecessarily to half a day’s salary of the offending teacher.
Teachers shall maintain thorough discipline and exclusively devote themselves to their profession. They shall also exercise due care to prevent damage to their academic rooms, furniture, apparatus, books and other property, and shall see that all windows in their respective rooms are closed at the end of each session.
Teachers shall keep their pupils’ records of absence, dismissal, etc. in a register. They shall report the same to the principal.
Teachers shall not tutor any pupils of the Academy during academic terms for pay without the written permission of the principal.
Teachers shall not deal with book agents and other canvassers in the Academy premises; neither shall announcements, except those of educational importance, or advertisements or photographing of the Academy or solicitations of money be permitted in the Academy without permission from the principal.
Teachers shall so arrange the daily exercises in their classes that every pupil shall have some kind of physical exercise in the forenoon and afternoon.
The principles of morals, truth, virtue and right living must be inculcated in pupils; no teacher shall promulgate partisan or sectarian views in the Academy.
Teachers must recognize the principal as the head of the Academy. They shall cooperate with the principal in harmonizing the work of the Academy, in maintaining discipline strongly and in making teaching methods uniform and effective.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
When a teacher is appointed by the principal or management board, such appointment shall terminate at the close of the year (according to the government academic calendar) and then may be renewed.
As required, the selection of teachers shall be made by the principal or management board. To be eligible for regular appointment, kindergarten and elementary (up to grade six) teachers must hold proficiency certificate-level degrees and must have at least one year’s successful teaching experience. The teachers who have earned higher education shall be given preference.
Salaries and Perks
Teachers and other staff shall receive salaries fixed by the Board of the Academy.
Salary scales may be revised from time to time by the Board of Academy.
In case of personal illness or death in the immediate family (spouse, parent, son, daughter, brother or sister), 13 days’ bereavement leave shall be granted with pay during the academic year.
Twelve days of leave for all the staff are being arranged. At the end of the academic session, they shall receive leave pay on the basis of their remaining leave.
In the absence of the principal, the vice principal shall be assigned to look after the Academy. He/she shall be paid an additional 10% of his/her regular salary for officiating as principal.
Regular teachers who are absent on account of personal illness for more than two days shall have to submit their physician’s certificate of illness. Their salaries will be deducted for the period of absence.
Regular teachers shall be entitled, once a year, to at least two weeks of holiday during the summer and winter vacations. This privilege shall not, however, be granted to teachers in the employ of the Academy for less than a year.
